Our art club students have created some work for the Chinese New Year, making lanterns and learnt some words in chinese.
They have also created work in the style of Sgraffito (derived from Italian "to scratch") It is a decorative technique involving scratching through a surface layer to reveal a contrasting coloured base layer. Students used oil pastels and black poster paint.
Year 7
Are mastering brush marks and colour to later use for a painting they will produce to consolidate their learning. Their painting will be cups, making the reference to their overall theme of families, for example a cup can represent a member of their family.
Year 8
Are working on an interdisciplinery unit with Science learning about pollution and how it affects the human body. They got to see a dissection of a lambs heart and have made pen drawings in their art lessons to use in posters for pollution awareness.
Year 9
Students had their first taste of working acrylic paint and have produced eye paintings in Fauvist style. These will be used later in the year to create book covers for Frankenstein.
Year 11 Trip
Fine Art and Photography Year 11 students went on a trip to Whitstable to start their External Set Assessment 'Found'. The day was a little over cast and damp but as you can see they were all working hard on gather evidence for the assessment.
Year 10
Students have gained lots of new skills since the beginning of the year and will be able to apply their learning to more independant work for their mock later in the year. Fine Art students are making plans for final pieces of work and Photography students are learning about shutter speed to create light photography.
Our Year 13 A Level student has been working hard on her ideas for the external set assessment and Year 12 IBDP Visual Art students have been working hard on their Art Marking Inquiry Portfolios. We made a trip to The Courtauld to see not only their permanent collection but the first collection of seascapes by George Seurat. We also went on to The National Gallery to gather ideas for their own topics.
