An Impressive Six Months of Literacy and Reading at Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy
Years 8 to 10
Following on from our busy start to the academic year, and four months of interventions we have seen some impressive improvements in the reading ages of years 8 to 10 students, taking part in reading interventions:
Of the intervention students tested, the average reading age improvement was 13.2 months, which equates to approximately 1 year, 1 month
Of the students whose reading score improved, the average reading age increase was 22.3 months which equates to approximately 1 year, 10 months
Year 7
For Year 7, 75% improved their reading age with the average reading age increase 9 months in 4 months
Whilst we celebrate our wonderful successes, we push on to ensure that we are supporting everyone who needs help with their reading. In March, we launched another series of interventions after school, with our Librarian, Mr Hardaker. The Vipers will surely take literacy by storm and improve their fluency and comprehension immeasurably.
