The following suicide prevention resources are available to help anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts. If you or someone that you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, there are many options for immediate support.
If you or someone you know is experiencing an immediate life-threatening emergency, call SHU Police at 724-830-4999 or dial 911 immediately.
Mental Health Crisis:
If you are experiencing a crisis that requires immediate attention you may speak with a counselor at any time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To speak with the counselor on-call, contact a member of the residence life staff or campus police (724-830-4999) who will connect you with the counselor. In addition to providing counseling services for students and consultation services for staff, the counseling center has fostered a number of suicide prevention efforts including outreach, education and suicide prevention trainings throughout the academic year. Programs are aimed at increasing awareness and improving suicide prevention skills. Programs such as Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), and QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Gatekeeper Training, are offered campus-wide and are available for staff, faculty, resident assistants and student. The CARE Team meets weekly to identify students of concern and assist with getting the student connected to appropriate resources. See the Care Team webpage for more details on how and when to refer.
Within the first month of the fall and spring semesters, all students will receive an email from the Counseling Center with information about mental health support resources.

In the event of a campus emergency, the university maintains a protocol for communicating with students, faculty and staff.
