As a result of participating in this Discovery Week course students will:

  • Explore their role as an audience of film and how film communicates with them.
  • Explore the five roles of filmmaking.
  • Explore filmmaking in Korea.


Course Description/Itinerary

We will be exploring the role of audience in filmmaking, including the five roles of filmmaking and how they communicate with an audience. The course will run Monday-Friday and will begin each day at school. There will be trips to museums, cinemas, as well as conversations with individuals in the business. Everyday students will have a line of inquiry that they will be using to guide their exploration of the days topic. For instance, one of the days we will be exploring the role of a Director. We will visit Arthouse Momo to view a critically acclaimed film and open a dialogue on the director’s role in the film. Students will vlog their daily learning and reflections on filmmaking and its role in their lives. Another day, we will explore the role of editing. We will provide a workshop where students will use iMovie to look at the power of the editing in the communication with film audiences. An exact itinerary will be revealed as elements are confirmed.


Requirements/Considerations:

  • Have a keen interest in film.
  • Capability of filming (phones, camera etc).
  • Willing to engage in discussions on film and explore museums or visit cinemas.
