By participating in this Discovery Week course students will be able to:
- Learn about the past, present, and future of our host country, Korea.
- Experience different occupations, such as archaeologist, museum curator, drama director, news anchor, airline attendant, and pilot.
- Learn more about the current social and environmental challenges facing Korea.
- Gain knowledge about the history, strength and potential of Korea.
Course Description/Itinerary:
DW “Experiencing Korea - Past, Present and Future” will be a trip to explore and navigate the different sides of Korea: its history, its current development, and future technologies. Each day involves visiting a new place, such as a museum, a broadcasting company, an airline (Asiana or Korean Air), Samsung Electronics, and an IT company (Naver or a game company) in Korea. Students will be able to appreciate and experience the varied interplay of Korean culture, history, and their future occupations!
- Day 1: Museum (Modern Arts Museum), Kyungbok Palace-Samchungdong and Hanbok experience (archaeologist, curator).
- Day 2: Airline visit (Asiana or Korean Air) and learning about different occupations (engineer, pilot, and flight attendant).
- Day 3: Visit one of the major broadcasting companies in Korea (MBC). Experience and learn about how broadcast shows are made (engineer, news anchor, actor, actress, singers, cameraman, set designer).
- Day 4: Visit one of the leading IT companies or a game company in Korea (Naver or Nexen), experience different IT jobs (computer programmer, computer designer, game designer).
- Day 5: Watch two different types of movies about different occupations and have a discussion about your future job.
Requirements/Considerations:
- Each day we will be visiting different places in or near Seoul.
- It is usually quite cold in Korea in early November.
- Be willing to experience and explore Korean culture and learn about different occupations in modern society.
