GOOGLE MEET

BEFORE THE MEET

Consider the materials you will need. Do you need pen and paper for this class? Textbooks? Other supplementary materials? Have them set up and ready to go.

Make sure your device is fully charged. You won't want to run out of power in the middle of a class.

Do your best to consider a space where you feel comfortable and are able to engage attentively and respectfully with your teachers and classmates.

Though it is possible to access a Google Meet using a phone, this is not recommended. If you have no other means of accessing the Meet, please see your Assistant Principal about the possibility of borrowing a Chromebook.

HOW TO JOIN GOOGLE MEET

Each Google Meet session has its own unique link and can be found in your Google Classroom . This will appear in the Classroom banner. Simply click the link at the time the Meet is scheduled to begin, and you will be able to join your class. *If you are using an iPad,/iPhone you will not see a link. Instead, you will click on the camera icon above the classroom banner.*

You will not be able to enter the Meet before your teacher does, so don't worry if you cannot enter the meet before the class start time.

*You may have to give permission for your device to access its webcam and microphone.

**If you are using an iPad or iPhone, you must also have the Google Meet App installed on your device.

GOOGLE MEET TIPS

Mute your microphone before you enter the Meet. You will see the button to do this once you have signed on to the Meet. Keeping your microphone on mute when others are speaking helps reduce feedback on your device, as well.

You will be able to choose how your Google Meet appears on your screen. There are different layouts available. Please be aware that regardless of layout, whoever is speaking will always be visible on your screen.

Use the chat box on the upper-right of the screen to respond to your teacher and classmates. This is the digital equivalent of raising your hand in class. (Please be aware that your teacher may not get to your question immediately; they may wish to finish the point they are making first).

Use the closed captions option if you would like to see a text version of what someone is saying.

You can use "split screen" feature to view your Meet and another document or webpage simultaneously. Use the ALT + ][ keys to do so on a Chromebook. Click here for a video tutorial.

COMMON PROBLEMS

If you are unable to join a Meet, check to make sure you are joining with your school account.

You will not be able to join until your teacher has joined the Meet. So, if you are a bit early, you will not be to join just yet.
