EMAIL: TIPS & TRICKS

Here are five essential tips for making the most of your email account.

1) CHECK YOUR EMAIL EVERY DAY

Get into the habit of checking your email account at least once every day. This is how teachers and classmates may choose to communicate with you. You'll want to make sure you don't miss any important messages!

2) DON'T DELETE YOUR EMAILS

Many students like to delete emails once they have read them. However, if you leave them in your inbox, you can find them again later - which can sometimes be really useful! Use the 'Search Mail' feature at the top of your inbox to look for emails from a specific person or identify all emails featuring a particular keyword.

3) STAR IMPORTANT EMAILS

Click the 'star' icon next to any emails you will want to find again quickly. Now all you have to do is click where it says 'Starred' in your inbox and these important emails will be ready and waiting for you.

4) BEWARE OF TIME-STAMPS

Every email you send is time-stamped. That means your teachers can see when you sent it. Teachers will not accept the excuse 'I didn't do my homework because you didn't get back to me' if your email was sent at 2am the night before ...

5) EMAILS ARE IMMORTAL

Anything you put in an email exists forever. There are no do-overs. If you write or send anything inappropriate using your email account, it will be traced back to you and disciplinary action may follow. ('It was just a joke' is not an acceptable excuse. Think carefully about what you send).
