Think of your SDUHSD GMail account as a sort of mailbox. You can use it to send and receive messages. If there is something you need to ask a teacher and you can't speak to them in person, email is the best way to do so. Your email address is your school username plus the handle @my.sduhsd.net

IMPORTANT: You must use your District email account if you wish to email your teacher. Emails sent from a personal account will not be responded to. This is because teachers must be sure who they are communicating with.
