This Week: Natural Remedies & Brain Health – Science vs. Tradition
This lesson explores how traditional, holistic, and modern medical approaches work together to support brain health in older adults. Modern medicine is effective for treating acute and serious conditions, while holistic practices focus on prevention, lifestyle, balance, and whole-person health. The lesson emphasizes integrative care as the safest approach, combining evidence-based medicine with practices such as mindfulness, movement, nutrition, and selected natural remedies. It also highlights the role of stress management, sleep, physical activity, social connection, and nutrition in cognitive aging, while stressing the importance of evaluating health information carefully and recognizing that natural does not always mean safe.
