Google Classroom + Zoom
Classes typically have a Google Classroom. Families are invited to join their child’s Google Classroom each fall.
Google Classroom is our organizational hub for all resources for remote learning days. All synchronous (live) video teaching will happen via Zoom – which you may access via a link in the Google Classroom. On a remote learning day, children will sign into their regular Google Classroom to find materials shared by their teacher(s), Zoom links, and lessons shared by specialty teachers.
Login Credentials
Children sign in with their @nycstudent.net login credentials. Kindergarten children and children new to the school receive their credentials shortly after enrolling.
If you can’t access your child’s login credentials and need a new copy, please email your child's parent coordinator or your child’s classroom teacher. We ask that you do not change your child’s password. It is critical that all teachers have the correct information for all students.
On a desktop or laptop, you may want to start at TeachHub which will allow easy access to all NYCPS applications for remote learning. When signing into Google Classroom be sure that you are not signed into other Google accounts. This is the most common cause of problems for families who are having trouble signing in. If your child is using a shared device for remote learning, sign out of all Google accounts, use an incognito window, or use a different browser entirely.
Devices
All children should have access to a device in the event of a snow day or other emergencies that force us to temporarily pivot to remote learning. If your child does NOT have access to a reliable device at home and you would like to borrow one from the NYCPS, please contact your child's school. They may be able to issue you a DOE iPad to use at home.
NYCPS devices are administered by the central NYCPS system and there is no access to the app store. Children are only able to use the apps that are pre-installed, which include Google Classroom, Safari/Chrome, and a few digital reading resources. We do not have any administrative control over the apps on DOE devices and cannot add/remove apps ourselves. If using an iPad, It is important that the software is kept up to date. We see many families return a device that is “not working” and only in need of a software update. Chromebooks also need occasional updates.
