Family Connectors is a citywide, interagency effort to help families get connected to City resources while also helping to remove barriers to learning. This program will train trusted community members, or Family Connectors, to provide City public school families with information, resources, and even referrals to other City agencies and local community organizations. By training Family Connectors to support families in local schools, we aim to boost academic achievement, improve attendance, and reduce school-based violence.
In Spring 2025, our first group of Family Connectors will undergo five weeks of comprehensive training in critical matters, including housing stability, food access, public benefits, and legal aid, and become trusted community advocates for City public school families. Through the partnership and combined work of City agencies like the Department of Social Services, , the NYC Administration for Children's Services, , and NYC Health + Hospitals, , we aim to train over 1,600 community volunteers to serve as credible messengers and points of contact to the wider City public schools community.

We’re excited to start the year by continuing the work of the Family Connectors program, part of the new NYCPS Cares initiative. Family Connectors are parents and caregivers just like you, who walk alongside other families to navigate housing, food access, benefits, legal aid, and more. Together, we’re building school communities that are stronger, safer, and filled with care.
