iPhones, or Wireless Cards and Hotspots, may be requested by program teams for full-time employees. The devices are attached to Employee IDs, so they are not available for consultants. All requests will be submitted to the Office of Wireless Communications Services (OWCS) twice a month. OWCS User Agreements must be completed by assigned staff prior to us releasing or renewing their devices.
There are designees from your department for both Field and Central staff to submit requests to Operations for new devices, replacements, and to escalate service issues. For expense tracking and mindfulness, note that each Blackberry costs $720 annually, and each Wireless Card costs $575. We would ask that any emails/requests come from the assigned designee, to serve as the authorization to provide the device to the outlined employees. We estimate that requests can take up to 2 weeks from the submission deadline to receive, so please account for that timeline before following up on your initial request.
Please submit individual requests via this online form. Responses will automatically be sent to the DECE Contracts & Purchasing Team, and will be added to the queue for the next batch of submissions. A spreadsheet is available for larger scale requests.
The staff member will receive an email from a member on the DECE Contracts & Purchasing Team, or if preferred, program team designee, to alert them that devices are available for pickup from 110 William Street.
Staff requesting a device replacement must complete the FY20 Wireless Device Incident Report then email the DECE Contracts & Purchasing Team with the incident report attached.
If a device is not working, a replacement device can be issued after approval by OWCS (after they explore tech support options).
If a device is lost, the employee may be asked to reimburse the NYCDOE for the market value of the device.
If a device is stolen, the employee must file a police report and obtain a copy to share with the Wireless Department before a new device can be issued.
Please have the team designee share any service issues with DECE Contracts & Purchasing Team via email.
All service issue inquiries must include:
Device type (iPhone/Wireless Card)
Employee Name
Employee ID Number
Device Serial Number
Device SIM Card information (if applicable)
There are approximately 550 active devices for the Division of Early Childhood Education alone. We will reach out to appointed program team designees with the listing of devices and see which require extended services.
Note: The Wireless department requires renewed User Agreements, so we will ask team leads to collect the forms and submit them to the DECE Contracts & Purchasing Team for their group.
