What are Learning Progressions?
Learning progressions, in terms of teacher clarity, involve articulating a clear sequence of expected learning steps or stages, providing a roadmap to communicate the anticipated progression of knowledge and skills to students, enhancing transparency and guiding instructional planning for effective learning outcomes.
Why are Learning Progressions important?
Utilizing learning progressions aids teachers in offering a clear trajectory of learning, fostering a deeper understanding of how concepts develop over time, enabling targeted instruction and personalized support tailored to students' evolving needs, ultimately promoting more efficient and comprehensive learning outcomes.
What are some steps to creating Learning Progressions?
Review Content Standards:
Review curricular documents (framework, scope and sequence, blueprints, Achieve the Core, etc.) for more in depth explanation of the standard and what students should be able to do
Assessing Prior Knowledge:
Determine what prior knowledge and skills students need (some may have to be retaught), and what is expected at the next level.
Develop Progressions:
Use information gathered to develop progressions, review to make sure all of the standard is covered.
Organize Progressions:
Organize progressions to prepare learning outcomes for students
