COURSE OUTLINE

Chorus is a year long course open to all 9th, 10th , 11th, and 12th grade students desiring to further their performance skills through choral music. No prior musical experience is necessary, but some basic background may be helpful. Students will explore a wide range of choral literature. Movement through choreography created to match the style of the piece will also be implemented to enhance the visual aspect of the performance. A positive attitude is needed in order to work together as a team and create successful performances. An open mind to experiencing new and different types of music is a must!

To earn full credit for chorus it is required that all students come to class prepared (with music) and participate fully each day, attend all scheduled rehearsals whether inside or outside regular school hours, as well as attend every scheduled performance throughout the year (normally held outside of regular school hours).

The benefits of membership in the SHS Choral program are many: members of the SHS Chorus have had the opportunity to perform at Walt Disney World (Florida), Disneyland (California), at the Statue of Liberty in New York City and in Washington, D.C. In addition, the chorus often participates in clinics and events sponsored by colleges and universities throughout New Hampshire and beyond. Individuals achieving a high level of performance are chosen each year to attend the All-State and All New England Choral Festivals. Many members cite the strong bonds they form with their peers along with the myriad of leadership opportunities as being two of the most exciting benefits of participation in the ensemble.
