13965 San Pablo Ave, San Pablo

According to Sonny Jackson, who has been delivering parts for San Pablo Automotive for years, gives us a bit of its history. 

"The first picture (above) showing a building with the San Pablo Automotive Supply sign, I believe was the store that was for a while was on San Pablo Dam Rd. and now is the Kaliente Restaurant. The facade has changed. The next building was the SP Automotive Store on McBryde just off San Pablo Avenue in Richmond. The ads and directory posting show some of the locations in and about San Pablo, Richmond and El Sobrante. There was a junk yard owned by Tex Taliaferro and the old and new SP Automotive store were somewhat in the location of the new store as we know today (13965 San Pablo Ave). Tex lived on Pullman and Standard Streets in San Pablo and both streets kind of intersected in and about the junk yard location. The junk yard burnt down sometime between 1965 and 1969. The former Yard Birds Hardware store and now Los Montañas Grocery store are in that location."

The numbering on San Pablo Avenue was different before it all changed in May 1954 from a 4-digit address to five. The following ads below are from the local newspaper, The Oakland Tribune, showing this merchant's former address.
