People's Market
1474 Broadway Ave, San Pablo
Stay tuned...under Construction.
People's Market was built in the early 1940s based on the newspaper articles of that era. Also, many of the surrounding homes were built during this time and would have needed a local grocery.
This Richmond Independent ad dated July 10, 1945, indicates that O. E. (Otto Edmund) Hill, as co-partner, intends to sell the grocery business (DBA People's Market) to W. T. (William Thornton) Dean.
Hill, at this time, had a successful photography studio in downtown Richmond at 334-12th Street, which may be why he sold his interest in the grocery business.
This Richmond Independent ad dated November 25, 1952, shows W. T. (William Thornton) & (Sarah) Louise Dean now as owners, selling the grocery business (DBA People's Market) to the Costas and Carvalhos.
On Nov 28, Carvalho and Costa applied for an on-sale license for beer and wine.
