Minutes November 6, 2023 

El Camino Fundamental High School 

PTSA General Meeting 7:15 p.m.

1. Welcome and Opening Remarks

   - Attendance- Jennifer Flohr, Tracie Hewitt, Arnela Kitovnica, Barb Lezon, Chrystal Bernasconi, Julie West, Becka Stephensen, Evelyn Welborn, Holly Fales, Shannon Fox, Kimberly Yost, AVID teacher

2. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: Shannon Fox, Secretary

   - Becka S. motioned to approve the minutes and Chrystal B. seconded that.

3. Admin Report: Principal Evelyn Welborn

   - The Intervention program is working and the number of “F”s has decreased.

Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT)

• Program to improve high school and college graduation rates for young men of color. 

• The program will take 50 students total. 39 students are on the prospect list, and 12 of those 39 have committed to the program.

• The Program Manager and/or Mentors will be on campus every day to work with students.

• This program is housed in room 22.

Intervention

Cory Stowell has joined the VP team as our School Community Specialist. 

We are interviewing for a School Community Intervention Specialist I. 

Term 1: There were 74 Freshmen on the intervention list

Term 2: There are 78 Freshmen on the intervention list. 31 of the 78 Freshmen on the list earned zero F's in Term 1. 19 of the 78 Freshmen on the list earned 3 - 4 F's. Since Term 1, 6 students have withdrawn from EC. 

4. Student Report

   -There were no students present.

5. President's Report: Tracie Hewitt

   - We have the boutique/wrapping coming up on Dec. 14. We will reach out to Boosters to see if that is still a go.

Hoping to have a BINGO event in January. Looking for people to help with that.

6. Vice President's Report: Jennifer Flohr

   - Engraved Brick fundraiser to put around the gym? Possibly happening with the anniversary of the school. We have to get Facilities/M&O to approve

7. Treasurer's Report: Becka Stephensen

   -Presentation of financial statements, including income, expenses, and current balances

   -Discuss and vote on Expenses

8. Fundraising Report: Shannon Fox - We will start a See’s Candies online fundraiser. Other groups are also doing this, so we aren’t sure how effective it will be. Our goal is to raise $600. 

9. Committee Reports: 

1. Holly Fales

 Spectacular job in the staff room, very festive. Pie treats for November. Gingerbread theme for December.

2. Scholarship Report: Barb Lezon -  We can’t get a name off the Morgan Stanley account and have it updated. We are working on it. Advertising for scholarships will go out earlier this year.
