Dear LMEC Families,
Our virtual Back to School Night was a great success with more than 100 families participating online! Thank you to all the families who were able to attend - it was great seeing you there and we recognize how lucky we are to have families like you helping to build this new school! We are also looking forward to the day when we can host these events on campus again.
If you were not able to attend this event CLICK HERE to see the handout that was shared with families that night. The handout has links to teacher slide decks and videos about themselves and how you can help your child be successful in their classes.
And finally I want to celebrate our ASB students who held our first lunch time activity on Friday - musical chairs. Congrats to all our winners and a big shout out to our ASB students for making this happen. Way to go Eagles!
Sincerely,
Melanie Kray
All secondary teachers use Google Classroom to upload assignments and share information with students. It is a great way to see what your child is doing every day in class. If you haven't done so already we strongly recommend joining each teacher's Google Classroom.
Also, email is the preferred method of communciation. Teachers will normally respond to email in 24-48 hours. CLICK HERE for a list of all teacher and staff emails.
If you are having any trouble reaching your child's teacher please do not hesitate to contact their counselor or a site administrator so we can help connect you.
Parents we need your help. Several weeks ago your child should have brought home a manila envelope with directions on how to submit your LCFF household form in PowerSchool, the directions include your Access ID and Password.
Our school needs this information to help ensure we receive all the state funding to which our students are entitled. We use this funding to provide additional academic supports in the classroom. Below is some additional information to help you complete the process.
create a PowerSchool Parent Portal Account: English | Spanish

If you haven't done so already please complete your LCFF Household form in PowerSchool as soon as possible. If you have any trouble submitting the form.
One of our counselors Ms. Harwood has gone on maternity leave and while she is out we will be adjusting our alpha breakdown for the counselors:
Ms. Diana Medina (Last Names: A-L)
Ms. Carmen "Gaby" Sosa (Last Names: M-Z)
Now that students are settling back into the routine of full-time, in-person school it is going to be important for us to get a sense of where they are academically. That is why during the month of October our secondary students will be taking several assessments to help teachers gauge their current levels. In their English classes they will be taking the FASTtrack reading assessment and the iReady assessment. In their math classes they will be taking the District Essential Math Indicator (DEMI). These assessments are meant to be a snapshot in time of where your child is academically and to help teachers support their learning.
We will also be encouraging students to take the CORE SEL survey in their science classes. The CORE survey is designed to help measure student competencies on growth mindset, self-efficacy, self-management and social awareness. If you DO NOT want your child to take the CORE SEL survey please CLICK HERE for information on how to opt out.
Currently SDUSD is seeking community input around a proposed boundary change that impacts which schools will be feeding into LMEC for middle and high school. There are two upcoming community forums we wanted to make you aware of:
October 11th @6:00 PM: focus group meeting to discuss LMEC's dual immersion program at the middle and high school (zoom link to follow)
October 25th @6:00 PM: information fair to provide information about the programs the new LMEC High School will be offering and to seek input from the community about the instructional and athletic programs they are interested in seeing at the LMEC High School.
We need your input & voice: Please take a few moments to complete the community survey to give us a better understanding of what programs are important to you as we plan the new LMEC High School

We are continuing to distribute uniform orders as the partial shipments come in. Again, we appreciate your patience with this.
If your child still has not received their ordered items this week that is because those items are part of the shipment that has still not come in. No action is needed on your part. As soon as the remaining part of the order comes in we will distribute to students.
Please note we will not be taking any additional orders for school uniform polos this semester. And a friendly reminder that students ARE NOT required to wear a shirt with the LMEC logo. Any solid black t-shirt or solid black polo shirt is acceptable. CLICK HERE to see local stores where you can purchase these items.
Last Thursday and Friday (Sept. 23 & 24), students selected their top 5 choices for the project & teacher they wanted to work with during DREAM Lab.
This week, beginning October 1st, students will be enrolled in one of their top choices for the remainder of the semester. At the beginning of the new semester students will have the opportunity to select a new project to participate in during DREAM Lab.
The purpose of DREAM Lab is to honor our Montessori philosophy of giving students voice and choice in their learning and to pursue learning projects that they are passionate about. All the DREAM Lab projects are tied to one of the 4 Eagle Way cornerstones: Learning, Mastery, Empathy, or Community.
Now that the hustle and bustle of the opening of school is settling down and students are becoming used to the routines of school, we will be looking to start up our after school programs the Week of Sept. 27th. Please look for information to be coming out this week and next regarding the different activities we will be offering. These programs will be in addition to the PrimeTime After School Program already taking place on the LMEC campus.
