Dear LMEC Families,
Congratulations to our LMEC Robotics Club for finishing in first place in 2 out of 3 categories at the GTT Demo Day that was held on Saturday. They also earned a special award as the most involved school!
This will be the last community newsletter for this school year and because of that I wanted to say a few words reflecting on this school year. Like all schools, we dealt with the challenges of returning to in-person learning after more than a year online but with the added responsibility of being a new school.
I am proud of the work our LMEC staff has done this year - we have created a lot of great and memorial experiences experiences for our students, in spite of the challenges. Here are just a few:
SDUSD Silver League Middle School Boys Soccer Champions
2nd place finish flag football U14 South San Diego Rec League
Winner of 2 out of 3 categories at GTT Robotics Demo Day and awarded special recognition as Most Involved School
Field trips to Finance Park, SDSU, UCSD, Balboa Park, Indian Hills Camp, and the Kroc Center
Salk Institute Mobile Lab Virtual Experience for our 6th Graders
SDCOE Innovation Lab Design Thinking Session with our Science Students
Winter and Spring Music Recitals
Launched our UCSD Science Club
Started our Eagle Party tradition
And that is not enough space to even talk about all the community partnerships we have created through our DREAM labs and after school clubs!
I also want to acknowledge Alberto Castillo and Susie Stewart for their decades of service to our students. Even though they are retiring they will always be part of the LMEC Family! Thank you and we will be celebrating you both this week!
And finally, on a personal note - I want to thank the entire staff for making my time here at LMEC truly special. You are an incredible group of people and I have loved my time with you.
Sincerely,
Melanie Kray
A reminder that 8th graders will only come to campus during their promotion window and once promotion is completed they will go home with their families. In order to avoid long lines and congestion the walk through ceremony will have staggered start times based on student's last names:
9:00 -9:40 AM: Last Names A-F
9:40-10:20 AM: Last Names G-L
10:20-11:00 AM: Last Names M-Z
If you have not done so already please take a moment to review this slide deck that answers many questions you may have about the promotion ceremony.
Students that did not meet to requirements to particpate in 8th grade promotion activities received a letter on Thursday or Friday and their parents were contacted. They may come to school on Monday and Tuesday but they will not be able to particpate in the end of the year activities we have planned for the 8th graders nor will they be able to walk in the promotion ceremony.
A reminder that Tuesday, June 14th is a minimum day. All 6th and 7th graders will be released at 2:00 PM on Tuesday and summer break begins on Wednesday, June 15th. The 2022-23 school year begins on August 29th. Final grades will be accessible for parents to view in PowerSchool on Thursday, June 16th. The District no longer mails home paper copies of student final grades. If you would like a paper copy please contact that main office and you can pick one up.
Do you have friends and family in the community that are interested in attending LMEC but would like more information about the campus? LMEC is now open every Wednesday at 4:00 PM for campus tours. To schedule a tour please email Ms. Connie Gonzalez at cgonzalez2@sandi.net.

We wanted to make sure families are aware of how to report non-COVID related student absences. The easiest way to report an absence is to email our attendance clerk, Ms. Margarita Lopez at mlopez@sandi.net. You may also call the school at 619-344-6500 and press 3 to leave a message for Ms. Lopez. Once the absence has been reported no further action is needed on your part. Within 24 hours, when you check PowerSchool, you should see the attendance code has been changed from an A to an E which indicates the absence has been reported and excused. We also strongly recommend either you or your student reach out to the teachers to find out about any missed work. Email is normally the fastest way to communicate with teachers.
