Dear LMEC Families,
It has been such a pleasure getting to know your children these past two weeks. They're energy and excitement about the new campus is fun to see.
I also appreciate your patience as we work through some growing pains that are occurring as a result of opening a new school while some construction is still going on. Example: the upper playground area, where 6th graders will be having their lunch was delayed in opening so they have been eating on the lower field with the 7th & 8th graders. I am happy to report that the upper playground is scheduled to be opening on Sept. 17th and we will be shifting our 6th graders to that area at lunch time as soon as it is opens.
Sincerely,
Melanie Kray
LMEC is fortunate to have additional administrators to support our diverse learning community. Each instructional coordinator oversees a different area of focus for the school and works to ensure our teaching staff and programs have the support they need to help all learners achieve academic success.
Youth Advocates are counselors who help our students with academic planning and help provide the social emotional supports necessary to create environments that promote the safety and affirmation of all students by fostering a culture of care and respect that extends throughout the entire school. To learn more please CLICK HERE to visit the Youth Advocacy page of our school website.
Parents we need your help. Your child should have brought home a manila envelope with directions on how to submit your LCFF household form in PowerSchool, the directions include your Access ID and Password. We are asking that you submit your LCFF household form in Parent Portal in PowerSchool no later than Friday, Sept. 17th.
Our school needs this information to help ensure we receive all the state funding to which our students are entitled. We use this funding to provide additional academic supports in the classroom. Below is some additional information to help you complete the process.

As you know, keeping our students safe, healthy and IN SCHOOL is our #1 priority. To ensure this, the district is requesting for ALL families to fill out the COVID-19 Testing forms. Thank you to all who have already filled out these forms. The deadline to submit the forms was September 10th but we are extending the deadline to give families additional time to complete the forms. If you are opting out of COVID testing, we still need you to submit the testing form. Thank you!

As many of you may already have realized there has been some delays in the delivery of the uniform polos that families ordered during our Back to School Orientation Week. We apologize for the delay and the inconvenience this has likely caused. We appreciate your patience as we wait for the uniforms to arrive. As a result of the delay, we have tried to be flexible regarding the enforcement of the uniform policy. As soon as the the orders arrive a message will go out to families regarding distribution.
Please note we will not be taking any additional orders for school uniform polos this semester. And a friendly reminder that students ARE NOT required to wear a shirt with the LMEC logo. Any solid black t-shirt or solid black polo shirt is acceptable. CLICK HERE to see local stores where you can purchase these items.
We are recommending that students bring a water bottle with them to campus every day to help them stay hydrated with this warm weather we are experiencing, particularly on days that they have PE. We have water bottle refilling stations available through the campus so if students are running low on water they can refill them on campus.
Now that the hustle and bustle of the opening of school is settling down and students are becoming used to the routines of school, we will be looking to start up our after school programs the Week of Sept. 27th. Please look for information to be coming out this week and next regarding the different activities we will be offering. These programs will be in addition to the PrimeTime After School Program already taking place on the LMEC campus.
On Thursday and Friday next week (Sept. 23 & 24), students will be selecting the project & teacher they want to work with during DREAM Lab. Teachers this week are in the process of creating a course catalog of DREAM Lab Projects that we will be sharing with students.
Students will review the course catalog and select their top choices. Students will then be enrolled in one of their top choices for the remainder of the semester. At the beginning of the new semester students will have the opportunity to select a new project to participate in during DREAM Lab.
The purpose of DREAM Lab is to honor our Montessori philosophy of giving students voice and choice in their learning and to pursue learning projects that they are passionate about. All the DREAM Lab projects are tied to one of the 4 cornerstones of our Eagle Way: Learning, Mastery, Empathy, or Community.
Please mark you calendars for LMEC's Back to School Night. Look for more information to be emailed out later this week and to be posted on our school website and on ClassDojo.
A friendly reminder that LMEC's campus gates open at 8:15 AM. Please DO NOT drop off students before that time as there is not supervison available to monitor your child.
Gates will open daily at 8:15 AM. If your child is in Coach Harbecke's zero period PE, the gates will be open from 7:20-7:35 AM to allow students to enter for the zero period class and then will be closed again until 8:15 AM.
At LMEC we recognize that students learn best when there is strong communication and partnership between home and school. That is why one of the key objectives at LMEC is to improve educational outcomes for our students by developing strong, responsive relationships with our students' parents and families. Last week we attempted to get your input but there was an error with the link. That error has been corrected so we are once again asking families, if you have not done so already, please take a few minutes to complete THIS SURVEY so we know how we are doing so we can make adjustments to better support our families.
Currently SDUSD is seeking community input around a proposed boundary change that impacts which schools will be feeding into LMEC for middle and high school. Please take a moment to CLICK HERE for important information about upcoming community forums and to take a survey seeking your input about what types of programs you would like to see at the new LMEC High School.
