Dear LMEC Families,
The home to school connection is one of the most important indicators of student success. Even though your student is getting older and more independent it is important that you review their assignments regularly in Google Classroom and keep the lines of communication open with their teachers. If you have any questions or concerns it is never too early to contact the teacher or your child's counselor. We are hear to support you and your student.
Also, In order to alleviate congestion on the lower fields we have shifted where our 6th graders eat lunch. They are now eating lunch at the upper elementary quad area. In order to make sure this shift didn't conflict with elementary lunch times we had to make some adjustments to our secondary daily bell schedules for 6-8th grades so lunch happens a little later in the day. CLICK HERE to see the updated secondary daily bell schedules. Because of this shift, secondary lunch occurs around 1:00 PM on most days, so you may want to send your child to school with a snack they can eat mid-morning during their Nutrition Break.
Sincerely,
Melanie Kray

Any time your child is absent from school you must contact a member of our attendance team to report the absence.

Currently SDUSD is seeking community input around a proposed boundary change that impacts which schools will be feeding into LMEC for middle and high school. There are two upcoming community forums we wanted to make you aware of:
October 11th @6:00 PM: focus group meeting to discuss LMEC's dual immersion program at the middle and high school (zoom link to follow)
October 25th @6:00 PM: information fair to provide information about the programs the new LMEC High School will be offering and to seek input from the community about the instructional and athletic programs they are interested in seeing at the LMEC High School.
We need your input & voice: Please take a few moments to complete the community survey to give us a better understanding of what programs are important to you as we plan the new LMEC High School

Some of you may have heard of a recent "devious licks challenge" on the social media app TikTok where individuals are encouraging others to steal or damage school property.
Students are stealing things from their campuses such as soap dispensers, toilet paper holders, a box of hand sanitizers, personal items for teachers' classrooms, and damaging drinking fountains, toilets, fire alarms, and more.
This is happening all over the United States and unfortunately LMEC has not been immune to such vandalism and theft, which is why we are reaching out.
Our buildings are meant to be a safe, clean space for our students and staff and we will not tolerate the destrution and theft of school property. This is a brand new school and replacing these items is very costly and takes precious time away from other priorities.
Beyond this, our custodial team works extremely hard to serve our students and keep our campus clean and safe, especially with the increased risks from COVID-19.
We appreciate your support to keep our campus safe by talking to your child about the adverse effects of peer pressure sometimes found on social media platforms.
Whether you allow your student ot have social media, they will likely hear about this viral trend. This "challenge" presents an opportunity to speak with your children about appropriate use of technology and being socially responsibile.
We ask that you please speak with your child and remind them that this "challenge" is criminal behavior, not an innocent prank. This behavior is grounds for suspension, expulsion, and criminal charges. Let's work together to stop this now. The entire LMEC Team thanks you in advance for your support on this.
As many of you may already have realized, there have been some delays in the delivery of the uniform polos that families ordered during our Back to School Orientation Week. We apologize for the delay and the inconvenience this has likely caused. Part of the order came in on Friday but we are still waiting for the second half. We are going to begin distributing the items that have already come in to students this week (Sept 20th-24th).
If your child does not receive their ordered items this week that is because those items are in the second part of the shipment that we are still waiting to arrive. No action is needed on your part. As soon as the remaining part of the order comes in we will distribute to students.
Please note we will not be taking any additional orders for school uniform polos this semester. And a friendly reminder that students ARE NOT required to wear a shirt with the LMEC logo. Any solid black t-shirt or solid black polo shirt is acceptable. CLICK HERE to see local stores where you can purchase these items.
On Thursday and Friday (Sept. 23 & 24), students will be selecting the project & teacher they want to work with during DREAM Lab.
Students will review the DREAM Lab course catalog and select their top choices. Beginning October 1st, students will then be enrolled in one of their top choices for the remainder of the semester. At the beginning of the new semester students will have the opportunity to select a new project to participate in during DREAM Lab.
The purpose of DREAM Lab is to honor our Montessori philosophy of giving students voice and choice in their learning and to pursue learning projects that they are passionate about. All the DREAM Lab projects are tied to one of the 4 Eagle Way cornerstones: Learning, Mastery, Empathy, or Community.
On Wednesday, September 15th the secondary admin team held grade level community meetings with our students to review school rules and expectations for success. CLICK HERE to see information that was reviewed with the students.
Parents we need your help. Your child should have brought home a manila envelope with directions on how to submit your LCFF household form in PowerSchool, the directions include your Access ID and Password.
Our school needs this information to help ensure we receive all the state funding to which our students are entitled. We use this funding to provide additional academic supports in the classroom. Below is some additional information to help you complete the process.

As you know, keeping our students safe, healthy and IN SCHOOL is our #1 priority. To ensure this, the district is requesting for ALL families to fill out the COVID-19 Testing forms. Thank you to all who have already filled out these forms. The deadline to submit the forms was September 10th but we are extending the deadline to give families additional time to complete the forms. If you are opting out of COVID testing, we still need you to submit the testing form. Thank you!

Now that the hustle and bustle of the opening of school is settling down and students are becoming used to the routines of school, we will be looking to start up our after school programs the Week of Sept. 27th. Please look for information to be coming out this week and next regarding the different activities we will be offering. These programs will be in addition to the PrimeTime After School Program already taking place on the LMEC campus.
A friendly reminder that LMEC's campus gates open at 8:15 AM. Please DO NOT drop off students before that time as there is not supervison available to monitor your child.
Gates will open daily at 8:15 AM. If your child is in Coach Harbecke's zero period PE, the gates will be open from 7:20-7:35 AM to allow students to enter for the zero period class and then will be closed again until 8:15 AM.
