"I'm a painter who has been making scarf tapestries, or "soft paintings,” with vintage scarves over the last few years. Sheltering in place gave me the time to teach myself to crochet to work with vintage knit works. In unexpected ways, the uncertainty and isolation of quarantining created a moment to learn, experiment, and continue to pursue ideas about painting in an expanded field. Knitting and crocheting, as acts of making and as the blankets and afghans they yield, activate ideas about homeyness, coziness, beautifying, and comfort, and reference the paramount need for warmth and care, so important in this time."
