Religion is the only subject taught in accordance with the Danish rather than the European Schools curriculum. In Denmark, Religion is a non-confessional subject. See Dossier of Conformity for more information.
The European School Copenhagen was granted Rights School accreditation by UNICEF Denmark in May 2021. Rights Schools, or Rettighedsskoler in Denmark, are a UNICEF initiative to get schools to teach the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and use it as a foundation for everything that is done in school. The goal of Rights Schools is to develop happy, empowered children, who thrive both in and out of school.
Our teachers have developed reading guidelines so parents can support the development of their children's reading.

At the European School Copenhagen, we believe that reading is fundamental to the students’ development as independent learners. Reading is central to our ability to understand, interpret and communicate with each other and the world around us. At the European School, we place special emphasis on language skills and as such, reading is given a high priority. It enables children to become enthusiastic and reflective readers across a wide range and type of literature, including different text types and genres, books, posters, magazines, signs, newspapers, etc.
The aims of our reading policy is to provide a framework for teachers:
To encourage children to read for pleasure
To ensure consistency in the teaching of how to read
To create a strong embedded reading culture through a rich language environment

The Municipality of Copenhagen has a central "Ressource Center" of social workers, nurses, counsellors, psychologist, speech therapists and other staff to support and offer advice to our pedagocial and teaching staff. They do not offer direct support to the students. See more information about our pastoral support under Inclusion pedagogues.
