Teaching at the European School Copenhagen is conducted by teachers who are fully proficient in the language of instruction (in L1 and L2, the language of instruction must be the teacher's first language/mother tongue).
Our teachers are recruited from abroad or locally based on their professional qualifications. All our teachers are holders of the academic and professional qualifications required to teach their subject(s) in the country(ies) of the language they teach in. The qualifications are verified against equivalent Danish qualifications by the Danish Ministry for Education and Research to ensure they also meet Danish teaching standards.
We work with other Accredited European Schools, educational institutions, training providers and the Municipality of Copenhagen to offer our staff professional development opportunities so they can keep their knowledge and skills up to date. This includes relevant online courses, in-service training and presentations, peer reviews, class observations and feedback, as well as professional courses and certifications where relevant.
In Denmark, the municipality is responsible for the overall supervision and quality of compulsory education (Primary and Lower Secondary), while the Ministry of Children and Education sets the legal framework for the education and the National Agency for Education and Quality monitors and evaluates the quality of the education. Upper secondary education, however, is the responsibilty of the Ministry of Children and Education.
As an Accredited European School, the teaching and learning at the European School Copenhagen is also subject to quality control by inspectors from the European Schools to ensure the school is in compliance with European School regulations and the framework of the accreditation procedure laid down by the Board of Governors. See Accredited European Schools.
Every two years the City of Copenhagen compiles a Quality Report for each of its schools. The most recent report for the European School Copenhagen is from 2019.
