Right Track - Vertical Slice

My goal for this tri and coursework overall is to expand my skillset in traditional 2D animation and drawing, as well as building a proffessional portfolio while doing so. This trimester I focussed my efforts on creating a vertical slice animation, to set the standard of a project to be produced early next year, this included the pre production stage of concepting and planning, as well as creating all rough animations with cleanup. I was also given assistance from a design student and an audio student to include background art and audio.
The proposed project I worked on this trimester was written by Kate Grubelich, my early involvement in this project consisted of creating concept art as well as forming an artstye for the entire project to follow.
For our early concept work we were unsure of the direction in which the art style should go, I started off with something more rounded and western animation styled, I found difficulty in keeping it consistent as well as it being too detailed, so our art style ended up changing a lot from our initial ideas.
Final art style iterations:
For the rest of the tri I worked on our final character turnarounds alongside my animation work, this was for four characters in total:
From week 7 onwards, I began animating the final product. I followed a normal simple pipeline for production; Keys - roughs and tiedowns - tweaks and second pass - lineart - colour - final composition
Below I have compiled a few of my favourite shots in the 3 most different stages of the pipeline
Roughs -
Lineart -
Full cleanup -
The final product for this tri's work is a vertical slice of what is to be a short animated film that will be 2 - 2.5 minutes in length
In between my work for the vertical slice animation I did I helped out with some sprite animations for a games project; slay soiree. This dungeon themed fighting game required different skeleton enemies each with unique mechanics, one of which I worked on. I completed the rough layer of animations for the Necromancer character.
Idle animation
Walk cycle
Basic attack
Reanimate mechanic
Death animation
Flinch animation
Previously I have worked on multiple other small animation projects as well as creating my own character designs and illustration work
