My name is Dianella, I’m a senior and I was born on a 26 of May in 1999 in Santiago, the capital city of Chile.
It’s funny to think that I was born in the corner of the world. Since I was very little I used to spent a lot of time drawing and building stuff with any material that was at the house. Until know I still love sketching and trying new drawing techniques. Also often spent my free time doing photoshop and designing book covers. Something really cool about me is my drawings styles can change a lot depending on my mood, even more my ideas can also change a lot, I mean, some days I feel I want to draw angels and then the next I want to draw old converses. I’m not quite sure about which college is the best for what I want to study, graphic design.
My focus is specially in pop art and modern styles. I sometimes like to draw funny contradictions or just hilarious situation with objects and things that we all feel identified with. I love working with black and white colors. The materials that I use for almost all my works are graphic pencils and graphic liners. There’s so many things you can do with them and these are materials I have control on them. I’m a very detailed person, so I like everything to be perfect when I’m drawing.
I usually like to draw inanimate objects, things that I used everyday like my laptop, or my phone. I could say all my works have this hipster style: weird, but beautiful at the same time. For example, the last project that I made was about doing something with cherries in it. After searching on the internet for some inspiration I came with this weird idea of Storm Troopers carrying cherries in the middle of the space. I just loved the result.
On the other hand, for me is really very hard to draw people, specially if they are doing something with their faces or body. I have realized that a lot of my works have no human presence, and when they do, is just a neutral face. Nothing really outstanding. For me is really important how to draw people, because I thinks I could explore so many designs where I can include humans and make the concept of the drawing stronger.

LOVE YOURSELF
A Part of me
Reflection: One of the things that I learned this year so far is to try new things, like new art supplies, experiment with them and see what happens when you use them. Thanks to this I have made artworks that I never thought I could be able to do. For example one of my biggest proudness, is my extended gelatine print. I'm not a good painter, in fact, using painting was something that I never really enjoyed because I'm a more detailed drawer and paint brushes were not the best tool for that, specially with watercolor paintings. But even if it was not my strength I still loved how watercolors looked in this urban styled drawings, like messy, but beautiful at the same time. That made me think that I could probably use the messy style of watercolor and apply that to my extended gelatine print. The result? A beautiful and messy rainbow pond spilled from a coffee cup everywhere. I think it looks pretty amazing.
One of the things that I most enjoyed was all the detailed works, those types of works that you have to take time to do every single line to make it look good. For example my Lake drawings, in this case I worked with with scratching paper and it took me so long to do the texture of the jeans, but in the end it look so cool that all the time spent was worth it.
The processes that I struggle with the most were when I have to use new art supplies that I never seen before, so I didn't know they worked and since we didn't have much time to finish them i just improvise in the majority of them. For example one of the works that i was not happy with, because I had no idea if i was doing was my expressionist self portrait. For that class we had to use oil pastels and i had no clue on how to use them. In the end i finish it, but it didn't looked the way I wanted. I think I still need to learn how to use them.
There are many artworks that I'm really proud of, but if i had to choose I would select four: "The innocents will fall" , "The cherry space trip", "My Rubius fanart" and my sculpture "Love yourself". The reasons why I choose this ones is because they were the ones that I took most time to do and because they came the way I wanted them to look, specially with the fanart. I never thought you could do such a good quality drawing with just markers and colored pencils. Maybe all the experience that I got so far helped me to do this artwork. I mean, after failing so many times, I already knew what to do and not to do to make the drawing look awesome.
I thinks the quality of my drawings can show how good I have become. I mean, if I could bring my old artworks from Chile, I would definitely feel ashamed of them. I have realize that second half of 2016 and first half of this year, in that period of time I have done pretty amazing things. I learned new drawing techniques and apply them in my works, I figured out how to amazing things with simple materials and I learn from my failures.
I have notice that all of my art works have something in common, which is this hipster/indie and sometimes creepy style. I like to draw things that you will never expect to see or find and make them look as something beautiful. I'm still working on making something creepy look so beautiful that people would not mind if it has blood in it. But I guess that is going to take time. Also, almost all my artworks have a little part of my life, like a short memory of my childhood, some sad stories about my family (the innocent will fall), my first days of school (lonely autumn), and so many things that describe my life.
