Hush Hush, by Becca Fitzpatrick

The theme of my drawing is "The Innocents Will Fall". For this work I rely on a tragic story that my family spent long before I was born. Almost thirty years ago my mother had a brother who, for a strange incident, disappeared in the middle of a lake in southern Chile. I never met my uncle, but my mother always told me that he was taking care of us from the sky. That's why I chose to draw an angel standing on a small bridge in a lake. The angel is my missing uncle and for the background I am based in several places in southern Chile, especially in a town called Contulmo. The reason why I did not make the lake transparent, but rather diffuse is because nothing was ever known of the body. They found nothing in the background so there are still many theories of what happened.

The first sketches I made with pencils to erase easily if I committed any error. To make the sky and the colors of the lake use soft pastel pencils that fade very well. The angel paints with sharpie and to make the wings ultilice markers with different shades of black and gray to highlight the values and with a white pencil made the details of the wings to give them texture and also gave them brightness.

At first I only thought about drawing the angel on a dark floor and background and to make as if it were shining is that dark room, but deep down I knew that an obscure room was not something that made me feel identified. I love traveling south, because I can enjoy the beautiful views offered by the lakes, so I decided that it would be much more special to draw a lake.

The structure of my work is rather focused since I could almost every detail in the angel crouching, I decided that this was going to be my focus and I think the result was quite good.
