Students are more motivated to work harder in their areas of strength. Identifying strengths will increase self-confidence.
Have students journal about what they are good at and how they became good at it.
What steps were involved
Same strategy for weakness and how they could improve. What steps could they take to improve?
Personal Branding - creates a sense of who they are and what they stand for.
Create infomercial or social media post that paints a picture they want others to see of them.
Self-Confidence Builders:
Praise - when appropriate praise students personally and publicly.
Positive statements make them feel good about their accomplishments, and if need be, you can follow up (privately) with observations about something they need to work on.
Choice - students feel good about themselves and have a feeling of agency when they are allowed to choose and voice their needs or desires about projects, content, and products.
Opportunities - give them the opportunity to share their strengths. Ask them about something you know they are good at, and you can ask them to help you or others in the same area.
Feedback - always provide feedback that students can build upon soon.
“Feedforward” loop = feedback fails if it is not used in future learning
