Creating a safe, comfortable, and pleasant place for students is a priority for the Residence houseparents, who aim to be genuinely interested in student-boarders and what’s going on in their lives. However, RIS employees must recognize that private meetings with individual students may give rise to child safeguarding concerns. While the aim is to never be alone with a child, there will be occasions when a confidential interview or one-to-one meeting is necessary. When possible, such interviews should be conducted in a room with visual access, with an open door, or in a room or area likely to be frequented by others. When such conditions cannot apply, RIS employees should ensure that another adult knows the meeting is taking place. Due to the nature of their roles, the exceptions to this are school administrators, school counselors, school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, and school nurses.
Scheduled meetings with students away from the school premises are not advised. In the unlikely event that such a meeting is scheduled, it must be arranged only with the specific approval of the appropriate section administrator.

All residence staff members have received first-aid and CPR training. Medical information should be updated and submitted to the RIS clinic yearly or when a change has been made. Medications should be labeled with the student’s name, dosage, and recommended administration instructions.
Students must immediately communicate with residence staff members about any illness, injury, or social and emotional concerns. Staff can be contacted during the night if there is an emergency, for example, if a student feels ill.
The school’s medical insurance will cover any accidents at RIS, but it does not cover medical concerns. Parents are asked to provide their child’s medical insurance details to residence staff at the beginning of the school year. If a student becomes ill and does not have medical insurance, the student must pay at the time of service. Please ensure your child has adequate funds to cover this possibility (at least 3,000 baht).
A team of nurses is available at the school clinic from 7:00 a.m. to 5:0 p.m. during the school day. They provide assessment and care for minor injuries and illnesses. If a student does not feel well or is injured during school hours, they should go to the clinic immediately for treatment. The school nurses will determine if the student can stay in the clinic or go/return to class.
If a student needs to be seen by a doctor, the clinic staff or Residence staff will transport the student to a local hospital. If there is no immediate urgency, a residence staff member will visit the hospital with the student after 2:40 p.m. (Students who are too ill to attend class must remain in the clinic until the residence opens at 2:40 p.m.). Students may not stay in the residence during the day. Upon returning to school, a residence staff member on duty or a school nurse will contact the parents as soon as possible to update them on their child’s condition. If a student requires regular visit to a clinic for a chronic or non-emergency related appointment, we kindly ask the family to provide transportation arrangements. Our school van and staff are available for emergencies or acute issues.
Fire extinguishers and a fire alarm button are located in the corridor of each floor. In the event of a fire, the red fire alarm button should be pushed and turned to the left.
Residence students will have a fire drill each semester. Student evacuation maps are on the back of each student room door. When students hear the fire alarm, they should evacuate the building quietly and calmly and make their way to the covered walkway across from the building. Regardless of a drill or unexpected fire alarm, students should leave their rooms with their roommates to ensure that all students are awake and have left the building. A staff member will lead students to the field near Phoenix Hall if necessary. Students should never go back into the building until a staff member advises them to do so.
