9-12 Social Studies

6-12 Department Vision

The Ridgefield Public Schools Social Studies Department's primary purpose is to prepare our students to participate in our ever-increasing interconnected world, by building skills and knowledge needed for their role and responsibilities as citizens of the next generation. We believe that learning should focus on curiosity, critical thinking, and questioning. Our student-centered and inquiry-based approach will help foster empathy and informed citizenship to positively contribute to our culturally diverse and interdependent world.

Students of social studies in RPS can expect to engage in inquiry-based instruction. This means that students will craft questions for investigation, build knowledge, evaluate sources, and communicate informed conclusions.
