K-12 Library Learning Commons Mission Statement

The mission statement of Ridgefield Public Schools Library Learning Commons is to support student success in a collaborative environment that invites and ignites learning and enhances digital and informational skills and experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, innovation, and experimentation in a safe, ethical, and responsible manner.

By the end of Grade 8, students will be able to: 

• apply copyright, fair use, and media literacy principles while innovating, creating, and making personalized and relevant global connections.

• utilize the online catalog to access, review, and place holds on titles of academic and personal interest and will independently locate materials of interest.

• independently and collaboratively generate and revise relevant and challenging questions, locate, evaluate, and determine reliable print and digital sources for independent inquiry and reading pleasure.

• apply design thinking and engineering design concepts to discovery, creation, and problem-solving.

• independently and collaboratively navigate, organize, create, and publish works of personal interest utilizing student choice of materials and digital and non-digital resources.  

• Synthesize information, create new knowledge, and independently and comprehensively utilize citation tools to communicate findings using print and digital resources.
