The mission of the Ridgefield Public Schools (RPS) Library Learning Commons is to support student success in a collaborative environment that invites and ignites learning and enhances digital and informational literacy skills and experiences that foster creativity, innovation and experimentation in a safe, ethical and responsible manner.

• independently use the organizational structures and resources in the school library to locate, access, and read text for personal and academic purposes.
• gather information from a variety of sources, take ownership of new learning, and become content creators.
• become well-versed in various forms of digital literacy.

By the end of Grade 7 students will . . .

• apply copyright, fair use and media literacy principles while innovating, creating and making personalized and relevant global connections.
• utilize the online catalog to independently locate, review, access and borrow titles of academic and personal interest.
• be able to independently and collaboratively generate and revise relevant and challenging questions, and locate, evaluate, and determine reliable print and digital sources for independent inquiry and reading pleasure.
• apply design thinking and engineering design concepts to discovery, creation, and problem-solving.
• be able to independently and collaboratively navigate, organize, create and publish works of personal interest utilizing student choice of materials and digital and non-digital resources.
• using print and digital resources, students will synthesize information, create new knowledge, and independently and comprehensively utilize citation tools to communicate findings .
