French 1 is the introductory course of a four-year high school sequence or a two-year middle school sequence, both leading to French 2, 3, and 4. Students learn the essential elements of understanding, speaking, reading and writing French. Significant emphasis is placed on developing good pronunciation skills, acquiring a basic vocabulary related to specific topics, and speaking and writing in grammatically correct forms.
