Photograph 1 is an introduction to the basic technical and artistic concerns of digital and black and white photography. Concepts of effective design are presented, enabling students to think about what makes photography an art form and allowing them to discuss photography using appropriate vocabulary. Projects may include: experimenting with aperture and shutter speed settings, portrait photography, and some darkroom work. The majority of the projects are shot and developed digitally using Photoshop. The students create oral presentations based on historical and contemporary photographers of their choice.
