John Wooden defined success as "the peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable"
I am so grateful to serve the River Islands community as a 9th grade English teacher at RIHS! A bit about my journey: I was born in Hayward, CA, grew up in Manteca and graduated from MHS. I am a proud MJC pirate alumni where I played volleyball and pursued my BA and MA in Communication at California State University, Fresno. There, I fulfilled my dream of becoming a Division 1 athlete as I threw javelin for the track and field team and unexpectedly fell in love with the art of public speaking and debate.
I have two pets: my sweet kitten's name is Rawlings and my doggy's name is Bandit. Without my loving support system of my two younger siblings, my parents, and God-Father, I wouldn't be here today! And fun fact about me, I love to listen to all different kinds of music - so please let me know what your (current or all-time) favorite song is! I am also the girls Frosh volleyball coach! #GORIPTIDE!
I only had envisioned my athletic results, or my WHAT, and along the way began to understand my WHY. My WHY for teaching boils down to my passion for cultivating confidence, competence, building character, and getting connected. There is no better feeling than knowing you are exactly where you need to be. To echo principal Simoni, "be where your feet are."
Education is a means to understanding our WHY. So, what do you care about? Let's learn more about it!!!
