Dear parents, students, and school community:
Congratulations to everybody in the Dutchman Creek school community who contributed to us being redesignated as a National School to Watch for the fourth time! This was three years of incremental and strategic improvement and attention to the four domains that stack us against any school in the nation: Academic Excellence, Developmental Responsiveness, Organizational Structure and Processes, and Social Equity. There is no individual that made this happen for us; it was and always will be a complete team effort from the staff, the students, the homes, and the community!
November is here and with it comes the unofficial start of the holiday season. We become more festive, but we can also become unfocused if we are not careful. Let's maintain the discipline necessary to continue our trajectory of high achievement in all areas. November is Native American Heritage Month, as well as:
Child Safety and Protection Month
Lung Cancer Awareness Month
Stomach Cancer Awareness Month
Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
Diabetes Awareness Month
Epilepsy Awareness Month
Adoption Awareness Month
National Family Caregivers Appreciation Month
National Inspirational Role Models Month
Veterans and Military Family Month
U.S. Beard Month (also known as No-Shave November)
Remember, there is no school on Tuesday for Election Day. Lastly, Make-up Day for school pictures is Thursday morning and Ouzo's Spirit Night is Thursday evening.
Your continued support of the students and staff of Dutchman Creek is invaluable! Continue to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or needs! Let's have a #RockSolid week at The Creek! GO GATORS!
Yours in service,
Principal Clayton B. Moton
Developmental Responsiveness and Social Equity
As a National School to Watch, we understand the value of developmental responsiveness and social equity!
Thank you to everyone who helped make the National Schools to Watch Redesignation visit a HUGE success! The evaluators spoke VERY highly of the authenticity of the day, which was evidenced by the observations and rich conversations held throughout the day with the students, school personnel, parents and community members, and the district office staff. Matching that with our structures and operating procedures, we set the bar as it relates to the remaining visits to other schools across our state that are also under evaluation! GREAT JOB, GATORS!!!!
We enjoyed a festive spirit week that promoted a drug-free school and society for Red Ribbon Week!
Mrs. Christy Funderburk, 7th grade science teacher and school Lighthouse Co-cordinator won this month's "Trusted Professionalism" Rock for Rock Hill Schools! Principal Moton praised Mrs. Funderburk's hard work and dedication to the staff and students' growth in the Leader in Me framework!
On Monday, November 4, students who completed the literacy night bingo cards during our October Literacy Night will have a full dress down day. Teachers have a list of the names of students who are able to dress down.
As a National School to Watch, we demonstrate Academic Excellence!

ST-ARTS stands for “Special Talents in the ARTS”. It is comprised of a summer workshop from June 2-20 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Winthrop University.
Students currently in grades 6-8 are eligible to audition in music (voice or instrumental), dance, drama, and visual art. ST-ARTS is hosted by Winthrop University. Feel free to visit the ST-ARTS website for more information for parents and students about the ST-ARTS program. While transportation is provided to the auditions if needed, transportation to the summer program is the responsibility of the parent. It is important for parents to stay informed on the expectations for students in the ST-ARTS program. Please review the ST-ARTS Handbook. You can also find Rock Hill Schools information about ST-ARTS by visiting the Rock Hill Schools district website. Students who auditioned and were accepted previously and are still in middle school are eligible to attend. If your child attended ST-ARTS last year, you will receive an email asking you to confirm that your child intends to participate again in this year's ST-ARTS program. Please review the dates carefully. This program has limited participation. If you cannot commit to the full program dates, please allow another student the opportunity to participate.
Our students are working hard to incorporate the habits on a daily basis. This week students are focused on putting the most important things first, making a plan, and following through!
Learning Standards: Learners will be able to describe the value of keeping commitments and develop personal strategies to stay true in the moment of choice. Learners will be able to develop a weekly plan to help accomplish their Big Rocks in alignment with their mission, roles, and goals.
