There's nothing greater than being a Gator!
Enjoy your break!
Dear parents, students, and school community:
Last week was a great week at The Creek by all standards! I am very proud of our response to the call to be actively kind to one another, something that we should carry forward beyond a day's recognition.Ā
It has been said "When times get tough, we do not rise to the occasion...we actually fall to the level of our training!" That could not be more true than this weekend. I am especially proud of Mrs. Krull-Wendover and the DCMS Theatre team for putting on two nights of outstanding performances despite some MAJOR technical difficulties...including a complete failure of the sound system on Saturday right before the show started. Did they panic and fall apart? Absolutely not! They defaulted to their training and improvised by making strategic adjustments to entertain the crowd! THAT is true Gator Grit! Bravo, Mrs. K-W and students!
This week is a short one, but our focus remains clear. Remember, tomorrow is a bonus paid dress down day to go along with the FREE one for all students on Tuesday. I am thankful for everyone's efforts so far and look forward to picking right back up on Monday, November 27 after this coming Wednesday through Friday off!
Enjoy this week's newsletter and let's all have a great short week at The Creek! GOOOOOOOOOOO GATORS!
Yours in service,
Principal Clayton B. Moton
Let's take a moment to recognize and celebrate our Gator Nation students, staff, and community members!
We celebrated World Kindness Day and plan to continue to be actively kind to one another throughout the year!
The Trial of Goldilocks was enjoyed by all! Bravo, DCMS Theatre Arts!!!
The annual canned food drive organized by the DCMS Jr. Beta Club was a HUGE success! We collected over 1400 food items during our food drive this year!! All items collected were donated to HOPE Food Bank in Rock Hill.! Thank you Mrs. James for organizing this event for Beta Club and all students to give back in support of our community.
Join us in celebrating the entire of month of November!
We are about half way through quarter 2. This week, students will be coming home with progress reports which reflect their grades in core and related arts classes. Please take time to review your students' grades with them and talk about the importance of submitting assignments on time, asking for help, and taking advantage of opportunities for additional support as needed.Ā
Quarter 2 Benchmarks will take place the week of December 11-15, 2023. These assessments are given to monitor student progress and mastery of skills covered within the quarter. We want to ensure that students take their time and take the assessments seriously to provide an accurate reflection of their understanding of skills covered. These benchmarks serve as a data point for intervention and extension for students. Teachers will continue to reflect on this data coupled with classroom observations and formative assessment data to drive instruction as we move forward throughout the academic school year.Ā
We are looking to maintain the momentum built through Quarter 1 into the second quarter of the year. To respond to the need for students to have extra time to complete essential assignments, we will begin offering Gator I Can University (ICU) during lunch. This will allow teachers to ensure that students who need to complete essential assignments are given the time and space to do so, which will allow them to better determine which students have mastered the content standard of focus and which students need additional instruction.
Mrs. Moore and our talented arts students are excited to present a series of art displays throughout the months of November and December! Art will be on display between 5p.m-7p.m for students and families to view in conjunction with various sporting and related arts events. Come out and support the artistic talents of our students.Ā
The holiday season is quickly approaching!!!
The DCMS school counselors will again be hosting the Gator Giving Tree!!
Approximately 10 students have been identified from each grade level to receive gifts.
Each student will receive a clothing related gift and a "fun" gift...with an approximate value of $25.
If you would like to provide a gift(s) for a student...you may select an ornament from the Gator Giving Tree website.Ā If you have any questions, please contact one of the grade level counselors.Ā
Wrapped gifts are due back by December 13th with a sticky note attached identifying the ornament you selected.
