Specialized Instruction and the General Education Curriculum

Participants in this presentation will explore the concept of “specially designed instruction” (SID) and its implications on secondary level curriculum for LID students. The law divides SID into two parts, a) addressing the unique needs, and b) access to the general education curriculum. Participants will review research on reading and math instruction for secondary LID students, and gain skills and resources for providing students with access to the general education curriculum.

Some outcomes to expect:

1. Participants will review research on reading and math instruction for LID students at the secondary level.
2. Participants will examine samples of what access to the general education curriculum might look like for students with low incidence disabilities.
3. Participants will gain resources for developing SID instruction at the secondary level for students with low incidence disabilities.
