Assessing students with multiple impairments can be challenging. Should we focus on the physical or the cognitive? How do we address questions about materials appropriate for students whose developmental age is vastly different from their chronological age? As there isn't one "catch all" protocol, how do we pick and choose among the many available when planning to assess our student? This presentation will focus on answering these questions using a little bit of demonstration and lecture, followed by a lot of hands on, participant led discussion and idea sharing. Be ready to learn from others as you share your own experiences.
Some outcomes to expect:
1. The learner will become familiar with a variety of assessment documents, including Every Move Counts, The Oregon Project, the HELP and the Van Dijk approach to assessment of students with multiple impairments.
2. The learner will develop a network of area professionals to contact in the future with questions and suggestions.
3. The learner will explore ideas for development of personal assessment kits including customized testing protocols, testing materials and organizational checklists.
