Library News - February 2017

Displays

A second Sudoku puzzle was up for a while.  We have had several students solve it but only a few actually did!  It was a tricky one. Well done to to those students that did solve it!

"Blind Date with a Book" for the month of February has begun!  The books that students can go on a blind date with are covered, have their personal ads, and ready to be taken out on a date!

In honor of Black History Month our non-fiction section displays books about prominent people in black history.  Many of the books also are displayed with a photograph.

The Lego Tower Challenge is off to a good start!  We are trying to see how high/big we can make the tower.  For every book checked out students/teachers get to add two lego pieces to the tower. For every book checked in; another two pieces.  If students actually read the book and complete a brief book review they can add four pieces!  How high/big can they make it? Come check it out at the circulation desk!

Classes in the Library

For the month of February the library is booking up!

Mrs. Steck has been coming in with her Senior Seminar students.  I was able to give them a review of Noodletools and pull some print resources for their project.  Mrs. Steck will also be coming in with her 10th grade classes to begin their research project.  They will also be getting an overview of Noodletools as well as the databases we have available to them.

We also have a few classes that will be coming to the library to work on projects with their teachers.

If you have a project in mind that could use some library resources come on in to the library and I will see what we can do!

Resources

Resource #1 - Diigo

Do you have too many online bookmarks and favorites saved on your computer?  Do you spend too much time sorting through them?  If so, Diigo might be for you!  With Diigo you are able to save and tag your online resources for easy access later.  You can organize your sources however you want and share them easily with others.

This is also a good resource to use with your students when they are researching!  See your school librarian for a quick tutorial!

Resource #2 - Overdrive

Enjoy eBooks and audiobooks through Questar III School Library System's OverDrive collection!  OverDrive is an extension of our schools’ physical libraries; only it is online with 24/7 access to audiobook and eBook downloads.  It’s convenient for students from all grade levels to check out titles anytime, anywhere!

Come to the library for login information or if you have any questions!
