Credential Extensions
An extension may be granted by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) if specific criteria are met. In most cases, induction candidates are eligible for an extension if additional time is needed to complete the clear credential requirements during their enrollment period.
The AL-3 leaflet found on the commission website outlines extension options and requirements, based on credential type, and the reason(s) an extension may or may not be granted.
“Credentials may lapse without penalty until an individual has an offer of employment in a position which allows for the completion of the clear credential requirements.” (CTC AL-3 Leaflet, pg. 1)
CTC considers the credential status to be an employment matter and does not require a candidate’s credential to be in active status to receive a clear credential recommendation from an induction program sponsor. However, a teacher’s credential must be in active status if an authorization needs to be added to the document prior to a clear credential recommendation (e.g., English learner, Autism Spectrum Disorders, subject matter, etc.).
