Once teacher candidates are identified as eligible for induction, they will complete the enrollment process, be assigned an expert reflective coach and attend Orientation. Candidate and coach will agree on a weekly meeting day and time and meet throughout the program year for an average of one hour per week. Candidates will seek input from their site administrator for guidance on the creation of a professional growth goal. Candidates will consider this input, as well as their developmental levels on the Teacher Performance Expectations as indicated on their Individual Development Plan (IDP) upon the exit of their teacher preparation program. Candidates will complete an Initial Self-Assessment on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. Upon reflection of site administrator input, the IDP, and CSTP Self-Assessment, the candidate will create a professional growth goal and Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to achieve that goal. Candidates will have opportunities to develop defined, measurable, shorter-termed goals within each focused cycle of inquiry, and all goals may be modified as needed.
Designed to begin in first year of teaching, candidates in CTI’s Individualized Induction Program engage in a mentoring system of support that includes “just-in-time” support for their daily needs as well as focused cycles of inquiry to support further development in instructional practices. For each inquiry, over the two-year program, candidates self-select a job-embedded need or interest, align that need to a California Standard for the Teaching Profession, consider their current reality, determine their ideal, and create a plan to close that gap. Candidates meet with a reflective coach for feedback and ongoing support, apply a change in their practice, and reflect on impacts and outcomes. Candidates have access to over 60 relevant inquiry topics, or they may choose to create their own inquiry focus. Interactive learning objects that frontload the “Why?” of each topic and spotlight available resources are available to support the candidate and student success for each inquiry. In addition to weekly meetings and engaging in focused cycles of inquiry, candidates will receive targeted feedback from their reflective coaches following three peer observations. At the end of each program year, candidates will reflect on their growth and success by creating a digital reflection to share during a culminating year-end colloquium celebration.
