The Edgewood Swim Team. While it was already discussed, some kids have been excited about the first meet, while others might be slightly anxious about it. The first swim meet seems a little intimidating, so many people in the same place. Or maybe you think you won’t do well. In this article, we’ll be talking about those thoughts and feelings while discussing when and where the first meeting is.

The first swim meet is on February 5th at the EHS pool. The coaches, who were previously discussed, Mr. Straw and Mrs. Musselwhite will be there. There’s still roughly 50+ kids who got in the swim team, and all 50+ of them have different feelings about the first meet. You can ask any of the coaches via email if you have any more questions that weren’t covered in this article.

There are multiple different types of strokes in swimming. Some simple warm ups before they start the real thing. The most popular, or common, strokes are the Freestyle, Butterfly, the Backstroke, or the Breaststroke. If you’re in the swim team, you’ve most likely heard of and done those types of strokes before. There are also different types of warmups. There’s some common ones, some are easy, some might be challenging. But the most common ones are the Active Warm Ups, Passive Warm Ups, or Static Stretching. The Active Warm Up is the most common type and the easiest for some. You may need to know most, if not all, of these in order to know what you’re doing in swimming.

Someone swimming,

There are many different types of competitions in swimming. Open water competitions are common. An open water competition is a competitive swimming race conducted over various distances and often taking place in oceans or rivers– a common type of competition in swimming. There are also, obviously, more competitive ones like olympic swimming. But you don’t have to worry about something like olympic swimming at EJHS. The coaches just want you to have fun!

Emi Kester; a swim team member.

Emerson Kester, a 6th grader at EJHS, was one of the many who attended the swim meet and wants to do swimming at the junior high. “When the team was offered, I was so excited,” said Emi. “The Swim Practice was a little intimidating. But I’m honored that I’m in the team.”

When asked how she felt about the first swim meet in February, this is how she responded. “The first swim meet seems so far away, yet so close. It’s kind’ve scary. But I’m still so excited about it!” Emi said that she has friends with her in the team, and it made her feel better. Less intimidating to her. “When I went to the practice, it was.. interesting. It was weirdly nostalgic in a way, since I’ve done swimming at one point in my life when I was at my old school, where I attended Agon Swimming before doing swimming at EJHS.”

Jackson Wells, another student at EJHS, is an eager student to start swimming, was another person interviewed for this article. He attended the swim practice feeling anxious, but so so excited. “When I heard the swim team was coming to this school, I felt pretty good about it. It felt  nice to try something competitive– something new.”

When asked if he’s done this at any previous places or schools, he said no. “Yes, I’ve swam for eight years of my life, never have I ever done it competitively. It feels amazing to do something new. I think I might actually be  good at it.”

The swimming ‘preview’ has come to an end. You’ve heard from some great students, or should I say, swimmers, from today's article. Reminder, the coaches, Mr. Straw and Mrs. Musselwhite can be located at their classrooms or via email! The first swim meet is on February 5th, 6:00 PM at the EHS Pool! Have a great day, thank you for reading this article, and happy swimming!
