Why are Stanley Cups so Popular?

Have you ever seen the famous Stanley Cup on social media? Or have you seen people around the school carrying them around? Stanley Cups have recently become famous around the world. But how have these expensive cups become so popular? Some reasons are social media and finding people at school carrying them around. But whatever it is that is making these cups so popular, you can’t deny the fact that the Stanley Cups are taking a stand in society.

One of the main reasons why Stanley Cups are increasing in popularity is because of social media. In a Google Form, when asked how they found out about Stanleys, the majority said they found out about it on YouTube and other social media apps. Things can become popular very fast on social media. Especially nowadays, when social media plays a big role in something becoming popular. Stanley Tumblers have become very popular in the past few months on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, but people are still determining if they are safe to use. Many people have been using lead-testing kits on their Stanley Cups to find out that they do contain lead. If you look up Stanley Cups having lead, eventually you will find that they do say that they include lead, but people seem to be worrying because some of the lead is found inside the cup where they drink from.
Another reason why these cups are so popular is that they are made of metal that doesn’t break as easily as other water bottles. The bottom of the cup scratched a bit but did not dent when dropped 3 feet above the ground. This feature sets them apart from other water bottles, which are more likely to dent. The biggest reason they gained popularity is after a video was uploaded on TikTok about how someone got in a car fire. They weren’t injured but their car was destroyed. However, their Stanley Cup was almost unscathed. There was even still ice in the cup. Other water bottles don’t last as long as you would like them to. Zathalia Welding has had this exact problem. “I’ve owned a water bottle for a year max before it broke,” she says.
Stanley Cups can also hold a lot of water. The Stanley Cup stands out from other brands like Yeti and Hydroflask because it, specifically the Stanley Tumbler, can hold up to 40 ounces of liquid but can also fit into most car cup holders. This can be a very good thing to have in a water bottle, especially if you are participating in a sport or club that requires good amounts of water each day. It is very popular because it is large and can keep drinks cold for hours. However, some teachers have had to make rules against these cups because they are prone to spilling, especially with large amounts of water in them. Heather Millick, the art teacher at EJHS, explained, “We had to make a rule against Stanley cups because of the risk of them spilling on people’s artwork and ruining it.”
People enjoy the design of the Stanley Cup as well. There are many different colors to choose from. The Stanley Cup creates new colors every year, ranging from rose quartz to charcoal. There are currently 26 colors to choose from, some examples being dark green, light pink, black, lilac, light gray, silver, lime green, and even more. All of these shades give a wide variety of options to enjoy. There are many of these colors that you can choose from, and there are also different types of these cups like smaller ones for at home or larger ones for when you're working. You can also decorate your Stanley with things like stickers and straw coverings/straw caps that prevent it from leaking and also make it look nicer.

So, to summarize, Stanley Cups have become overly popular because of four main reasons. The first reason is because of its huge boom in popularity and it's going viral on big social media apps such as TikTok and Instagram, as well as YouTube. The second reason is that they are made of metals that make them less likely to get damaged, scratched, or dented in any sort of way. The third (and one of the biggest reasons) is that they can hold lots of water, especially the Stanley Tumblers which hold up to 40 ounces of water, which makes it perfect for doing lots of physical activities or sports. The last reason is that the design is nice and it has lots of color options you can accessorize it with stickers and buy straw caps so it doesn't leak out and so it makes it look cuter. For these reasons, the Stanley Cup has become popular, whether it's in the school, or online on social media.
