New Semester Begins: Students Adjust to New Classes

With the new semester beginning, students have new classes. Whether you are switching to art or if you are switching to science, there are still things to adjust too. Your new class might be farther away from your locker, or you just might need to remember that you have a new class, it can be difficult to adjust. So what do students at EJHS think of this change?

A lot of students are enjoying their new classes so far. “I like that we switch classes because it allows students to be able to experience different classes,” says Dorothy Hamilton, a 7th grader at EJHS. Also, having new classes gives students an opportunity to learn new things. It also gives students a new experience instead of just having the same class for the whole year. But, some students have not changed more than one class because they might’ve signed up for an all year class.

Another good thing about students switching classes is that they will have opportunities to improve their grades. Some students may have not had very good grades or had struggled in the class that they had before. Having a new class gives the students an opportunity to improve their grades or have a better understanding of what they are doing in class. It also gives them an opportunity to make new friends or to start having classes with their friends. Since a lot of students might not have a lot of friends in their other classes, having new classes gives them more chances to have classes with their friends.

But there might be some difficult things about switching classes.

The class could be far from your locker and can be difficult to get to on time. Emerson Desalle, a 7th grader at EJHS says, “PLTW is so far away from my locker.” Having classes that are far away from your locker or where you are can make it harder for students who don’t fully know the best way to that class yet. Another thing that can be hard for students is remembering what class they go to. Since they got used to going to a certain class, they might go to that old class instead of the new class that they got.

With there being a new semester and the new classes there are a bunch of new learning opportunities for students. Hopefully there will be a lot of students that like their classes this semester.
