Stranger Things 5: Who's gonna make it?

All great things must come to an end, and the same applies for the Stranger Things series. Stranger Things has been running from July 15th, 2016 to July 2022. Though its runtime isn’t fully done yet. Season 5 is on its way. Its planning to start production this year. According to Radio Times, it is one of the most highly anticipated TV seasons of all time. It’s no secret that one of our beloved characters will probably die during the final showdown between the Hawkins crew and Vecna. The only question is who. According to screenrant.com, there are multiple characters who are likely to die including Robin, Jonathan, Steve, Will, Max, Eleven, and Vecna.

While Robin has only been on the show for one and a half seasons, she is still one of the most beloved characters in the series. She has definitely made an impact on the show by representing the LQBTQ+ community. Though is should be known that Robin hasn’t really done anything particularly heroic in the time she’s been on the show, which makes it more likely that Robin might make a sacrifice in the the finale.

Jonathan was a central character in seasons 1,2, and 3. In 4 though, he seemed more like a minor character and was really only shown driving the California gang everywhere and supporting Will. He will probably, at least according to certain sources, be featured more closely in season 5. His decision not to go to college with Nancy and the love triangle between Steve, Nancy, and him makes his future seem uncertain. It is definitely a possibility that Jonathan’s story could take a rather tragic twist.

Steve is a definite fan-favorite character with one of the best redemption stories of all. Steve started out as more of a jerky boyfriend/antagonist character and then became Dustin’s confident and in later seasons became the “mom” of the group. While many think that there is a possibility that Steve will bite the dust, sacrificing himself for the greater good, screenrant.com thinks otherwise. Steve is probably going to make it through season 5.

Will is one of the most essential characters in the whole series. It all started with Will and it will end with Will too. Will’s story started with him getting abducted and taken to the Upside Down which is the basic plot of Stranger Things season 1. In season 2 he gets possessed by the Mind Flayer, season 3 he’s basically ignored by MIke and Lucas who are ranting about their girlfriends, and in season 4 he is a third wheel for Mike and Eleven.

He’s had a rough life and it doesn’t look too much better for him in season 5. If you’ve seen season 4, you’ll know that Will is actually gay. He loves his best friend Mike, which is a problem because Eleven is basically Will’s step-sister and to add to the awkwardness, Mike doesn’t even realize that Will likes him. Will seems to have been connected to the Upside Down ever since season 1. That connection has helped him at times through seasons but it has also doomed Will. Many fans suspect that his connection will cause Will to die in season 5 in one of two ways. He will have to die to sever the connection and cause the Upside Down to stay within its own dimension. That’s the first theory. The second one is that Will will become a host for Vecna or will become evil and the gang will have to kill him. There is also the likely possibility that he will die to save Mike and confess that he’s always loved him.

When we ended season 4, Max wasn’t doing too hot after her encounter with Vecna. She was in a coma, brain-dead, and had already died, just barely being resurrected by Eleven. Some fans say that Max may never wake up, which would upset a lot of people. There is also speculation that Max may become possessed by Vecna. The creators of Stranger Things are not giving up what’s going to happen to Max. Her fate seems to be completely up to the Duffer Brothers.

When we first saw her in an oversized t-shirt demonstrating her amazing abilities, we knew that Eleven was going to be important. She’s the key to the gang’s success in almost every season. There will be no exception in season 5. This time though, the final showdown will probably be a little bit more personal since Vecna/001/Henry used to be her friend, at least until he tried to murder her. Eleven was the one that banished him to the Upside Down in the first place. The showdown between the both of them will most likely be one of the most intense battles in the whole series. Fans of the show say that Eleven might die during this epic battle. Or that she will choose to save everyone else and close the gateway between the Upside Down and Hawkins with her still in the Upside Down. The Duffer Brothers have openly expressed their opinion on killing off beloved characters. It seems very likely that they could kill off Eleven by her sacrificing herself to save others. It would be a very bittersweet ending but most season endings are.

The final character I’m discussing is Vecna. The one behind it all. It was a large shock to most audiences when discovering that from the very beginning, it was Vecna all along. Out of all the characters I’ve mentioned today, this is the one fans want to see dead the most. It seems incredibly likely that Vecna will not survive.

Due to the history of previous seasons.  The Demogorgon, which seemed to be the main supernatural antagonistic character of season 1, ended up being killed. In season 2, the demo dogs were trapped in the Upside Down. The Mind Flayer(and the Russians’ secret operation) was destroyed in season 3. In season 4, we were left with an ending where Vecna was still alive just not in great condition. This is also why Stranger Things season 5 is also called season 4 volume 2, because they didn’t defeat the antagonist in the end.

Though I did make a whole list of who I (and many websites) thought wouldn’t make it, for the most part we don’t know. We just have rely on the Duffer Brothers' foreshadowing techniques and the little that is released. Who do you think will make it through season 5?
