Review on the new Disney movie: Disenchanted

“Each happy ending’s a brand new beginning!” As Giselle says in Disney’s Enchanted. A beginning that is, of the new Disney Enchanted sequel Disenchanted. While some people think it was terrific and a great addition to the Enchanted story, others disagree and think it was a waste of time.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

To start off, a brief overview of the plot events in the beloved Enchanted. Giselle (The main character) lives in a fairytale land where dreams come true. The one thing that Giselle doesn’t have though is true love. Since she lives in a fairytale land, obviously she meets a handsome prince that immediately wants to marry her. But then, like all fairytales, the bad guy intervenes in the bliss of a Happy Ever After. In this case, the evil queen turns into an old lady on Giselles’ wedding day and pushes her into a wishing well that sends her to a place where there is no “happily ever afters”. This terrible place is New… York… City. Giselle struggles but eventually finds a way to live with her new husband in a different version of her beloved happily ever after!

Enchanted is an amazing movie that is truly magical! It is 93% loved on the Tomatometer and had an 80% audience score. Lots of people absolutely loved it! This brought up the needed question of, how could the sequel possibly measure up to the original?

Disenchanted starts with the story of Giselle and her fairytale life, read by Pip. Pip’s children finish the story for him because they know it so well. Then Pip tells them that sometimes there are things that come after the “happily ever after”. After walking to the bookshelf he grabs a new book, Disenchanted. In the story Giselle and her family moves to a town that is as close as it gets to a fairytale. Then Nancy and Edward came to present Giselle and Robert’s new daughter with an Andalasian Wishing wand. Giselle then struggles to get used to her new life and starts to miss Andalasia. So Giselle takes the wishing wand and wishes for a fairytale life. As any fairy tale though, things go wrong and people start to change. Together they must find a way to fix the fairytale wish that’s gone terribly wrong.

Though the reviews on Disenchanted were alright, they couldn't compare to the spectacular reviews of Enchanted. Many people were disappointed with was the movie started. The ending scene of Enchanted showed Giselle in her very own dress shop called Andalasia Fashion. This dress shop was never even mentioned in Disenchanted. There were many complaints about the songs not being as catchy as the songs in the first. The overall rating of Disenchanted was 3.5 stars out of 838 reviews. Most people were not thrilled with Disenchanted.

On the other hand there were many people who loved Disenchanted just as much as Enchanted. Many people loved the old cast and had many praises for Amy Adams (Giselle). Though some people said that it could never measure up to Enchanted, many thought it still didn’t lose the magic touch. The main cast members were, Patrick Dempsey (Robert Philip), James Marsden (Prince Edward), Idina Menzel (Nancy Tremaine), Gabriella Baldacchino (Morgan Philip), Maya Rudolph (Malvina Monroe), and Amy Adams (Giselle). Overall the cast did a fantastic job of playing their parts.

In conclusion, Disenchanted was not loved by crowds and overall, did not measure up to the original, but it was still a good movie. The cast didn’t lose their touch and played their parts very well.
