Should There be honors classes for SS and Science?

You know there are honors classes for ELA and Math. But have you ever thought about what it would be like to have honors classes for Social Studies and Science? Well, I think that there should be honors classes for those two subjects. Here are my reasons why.

Mrs. Jones's room (A 6th grade SS teacher)

My first reason is that it would be better for some students. Kids sometimes are more advanced in classes than other kids, so they might need harder classes for the subject. “People shouldn’t attend a class that they think is too easy,” says Emerson Desalle. “It's a waste of time to go to a class that's too easy.”  I agree with this; kids would also need more challenges, it would be really boring to attend a class where you already know everything. “It’s only math and ELA,” says Brian Rogers. “But people are also really smart at social studies and science.” This is a really true statement! People also are really good at SS and science, so why not have an honors class for them too?

My next reason is that it would help students recognize how good they are at the subject. “I think they should show how great they are at those subjects,” says Aiden Williamson.  Also, if a student were to get placed in an honors class for social studies or science then they could realize how good they are at the subject and find ways to get even better! “If you have 125% in a subject you should be recognized for that,” says Nick Bikoff. That is true, students should be recognized for being really good at a subject.

Even though this does seem like a good idea, there might be a downside to it. “Teachers will have to worry about more than one thing,” says Declan Panagopoulos. This is true, teachers will have to worry about more than one thing for teaching their students. But, that would also give teachers something else to do and learn. It might be boring having to teach the same lessons over and over again. This would also be good because the teachers would have new experiences. They could find different ways to teach their students, and more.

So, there are two sides to this. One, people might think it’s a great idea to have honors classes for SS and science! Some people might also think that it's a horrible idea. I think that there should be honors classes for SS and science. What do you think?
