Most employees in Rareform's office work a hybrid schedule, meaning they work somedays in the office and somedays from a remote location. Under special circumstances, some employees work completely remote but this is not the norm in the office.
As we continue to work together from different locations, we want to make sure our expectations for your work are clear, so everyone is on the same page.
Make sure you have the necessary equipment and internet access at a remote location to perform all of their job duties. If you don’t, talk to your supervisor.
Take equipment and supplies. Take your monitors home, chair, supplies, whatever you need to make your work set up more comfortable at home. Just inform your supervisor.
Communication - The difference between remote and non-remote employees is just communication. Please be intentional in the way that you communicate.
Responsiveness - Everyone should be more responsive than typical via Slack, email, phone and video meetings throughout business hours.
Be proactive - If you have a question that is not being answered or are unsure about your responsibilities, ask your manager. If issues arise, communicate them proactively so we can come to a solution together.
Post your status on Slack - Share when you’re in a meeting, at lunch, or away from your desk. If we all do this all the time, it will be an easy habit to remember whether or not you’re in the office.
Appointments - As with any time away, let your manager and team know and add it to your calendar. Everyone should be aware that you are out.
Hours - We do not care the specific hours you work, but you are expected to be online during the hours that others may need to get in touch with you.
Team Player - We need everyone to be a part of the team, work together, and get stuff done as if we were all still in the office working together.
Output - You must maintain the same or higher level of productivity as when in the office. We will measure people based on output, not face time.
Attendance - No chronic lateness or absenteeism problems should occur. You need to proactively communicate before you take off.
WFH environment - At home, distractions should not interfere with your work time and inhibit your work performance. Your environment should allow you to have clear phone conversations with customers, without excess background noise.
If you have any project work, the projects you’re working on should be clearly defined, have desired outcomes, quality, and timelines. If this is not clear, connect with your manager to get to understand your deliverables.
Every time you assign and/or are assigned a project, make sure the follow questions are addressed prior to the start:
What is the definition of done? What is the thing we are walking away with a.k.a the “product”
What does success look like? What are desired outcomes? What will we measure success by?
When is it due?
When are we going to collect feedback?
Weekly meetings - Every manager should be having weekly 1:1 to check in.
Cameras on - When talking to each other on Google Hangouts, use cameras on for everyone in the meeting so everyone can be visible.
Working from coffee shops or coworking spaces
In post-covid-19 vaccine era, if you choose to work from a coffee shop or coworking space, you will need to ensure that there isn’t too much noise around you, and keep in mind confidentiality of customer information.
Ensure that nothing leaks on public or co-working space, like wifi.
