Our Cumann na mBunscol 2025 season kick started with wins for both our girls and boys teams against gallant teams from Culleens NS. Both games were played on the Galecoil pitch in hte centre of Ballina in ideal weather conditions.
Our next matches were, in effect, Ballina Area Finals against Breaffy National School - Breaffy girls and boys had also beaten Culleens in earlier games. On the 14th of May, the local Ballina Stephenites GAA Club was the venue for our matches. Basking in unseasonable sunshine and warmth, there were two great games of football. Thankfully, we came out on the right side of the results in both girls and boys games.
After weeks of unseasonable sunshine, the County seni-finals took place in MacHale Park,Castlebar (back pitch) in very wet conditions. Both our girls and boys teams were drawn against Breaffy, Castlebar.
The girls met a very strong and experienced Breaffy team in that they were the reigning champions and had also won the mini 7s competition earlier in the season. Our girls gave a very good account of themselves and can be justifiably proud of their efforts. They were beaten by the better team on the day.
This encounter against Breaffy NS (Castlebar) was a repeat of the 2024 County Final so was always going to be a tight encounter. Despite the wet conditions, all in attendance were treated to an excellent game of football with tremendous handling skills shown by both teams. Our boys came out on top on this occasion and will progress to contest the County Final on the 6th of June.
The County Division 1A final was played in MacHale Park, Castlebar on the 6th of June. After a tense and exciting game, Ballinrobe emerged victorious by a margin of two points. Well done to the entire football panel who worked so well together for all of this season.
